Footsteps of the Roman Emperors

Arrival in Sremska Mitrovica: Sirmium was one of the most important towns of the Roman Empire in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th centuries AD. Today it is an archaeological site of international significance. It was designated one of the capitals of the Empire in 294 AD
and the significance of Sirmium for the entire Empire can be seen in the archaeological remains: the road system, aqueducts, military fortifications, imperial palaces, baths, theatre and hippodrome.
Sirmium was also the centre of the Roman province of Pannonia and a place of early Christian martyrdom.
Later, as the influence of Christians grew, it became a centre for them, as evidenced by the remains of the Christian basilica in the centre of town.
At the end of the 4th century Sirmium was destroyed by pagan tribes and abandoned.
Beneath all its modern-day streets and squares, Sremska Mitrovica conceals all the grandeur and significance of Roman Sirmium.
Departure for Fruška Gora National Park: known as the Third Mount Athos because of its numerous monasteries (17 in all), which were built in the early 16th century and have over the centuries served as bastions of the spiritual life of the Serbs. Visit to Krušedol monastery: this monastery was founded by Đorđe Branković and is one of the most beautiful and important monasteries on Fruška Gora.

Lunch on the authentic, preserved Perkov Salaš farmstead: surrounded by fields, hillocks and woodlands, there is a beautiful view of Vojvodina. The salaš features a display of traditional ethnic household items, handicrafts and clothing and food is comprised purely of local specialities .
